Having vacation in “Hill City?

Planning for a Malaysia vacation trip?

Where else to have your vacation other than Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia? I would have recommended Ipoh to be the place to stay for few days in your Malaysia vacation plan. What's so special about Ipoh? Where is it? What does Ipoh have for you?

If you are considering visiting Malaysia for the first time or you've been to Malaysia, you probably never heard of Ipoh. But now you sure will get a satisfy answer if you go through Ipoh-MalaysiaVacationGuide.com.

Where is Ipoh located?

Bougainvillea, the Ipoh city flowerIpoh is the state capital of Perak. It is located north to Kuala Lumpur, about 2 hours and 15 mins travel duration by car or 15 mins travel duration by airplane. The city is a much more peaceful place if compared to the busy and crowded Kuala Lumpur. Many local residents take it as the best place of living for retirement.

Oh yea, by the way, Ipoh is given the beautiful name as "Hill City" since it is surrounded by hills.

The "Hill City"

Even in the heart of the city, you wouldn't expect to see many high floor buildings. Why? Because of the restriction rule from the state government. Why again? You may find a clue for the answer from the name "Hill City".

Since Ipoh is surrounded by hills, there would be a problem for the landing or take off of airplanes larger than Boeing 737. Hence, there is no international airport in the city. This is also the main reason of the existing rule to restrict building heights in the city.

You may see this as a disadvantage, but then this is good for our nature environment preservation. No "iron-steel forest" of offices but more terrace houses/shops. It makes Ipoh the better place for a relaxing vacation trip.

Hills in Ipoh

What does "Hill City" have for tourists like you?

I say, it would be the delicious food, historical buildings, shopping malls and limestone caves. "Shopping Heaven" and "Food Heaven" would be another name for the city. Actually, Ipoh has never been a popular Malaysia tourist spot. To me, it will always be the little peaceful town with nice food and relaxing people.

For example, you can easily engage with cars in 40km/h speed on some straight roads with low or even no traffic. Funny, is it? You would even find it strange enough if you come from some fast pace living environment.

And for its food, many Malaysians drive for few hours from places like Penang or Kuala Lumpur at weekends, just to have a lunch or dinner for the taste of delicious Ipoh food.

Hills in Ipoh

Another additional point, Malaysians have called Ipoh as the "Factory of pretty girls". In my own opinion, it would be the results of having cleanest and clearest water supplies in Malaysia. Ladies, ever tried for water treatment to beauty? Clean and mineral-rich water from waterfalls will be the answer? ;) erm... but... it's drinking or bathing? or... ehem, don't ask me, because I don't know either. Hehe.

Are you ready to consider having Ipoh in your list of cities for your Malaysia vacation plan? If so (which I really grateful as it is my lovely hometown), you should be looking for hotel accommodation and transportation information too.
